Gilbert Van Hassel is Senior Managing Director, Group Head of ORIX USA Asset Management and Executive Chairman, ORIX Global Asset Management. He is a member of ORIX USA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee and Chair of the Asset Management Investment and Oversight Committee. Mr. Van Hassel oversees the execution of the asset management strategy for ORIX USA. He also has a broad range of responsibilities including leading global group-wide initiatives to enhance collaboration between ORIX Group’s U.S. and European asset management platforms, advising on alternative investment strategies and products, and continuing the development of the firm’s global distribution platform. He joined the firm in 2022 and is based in New York.
Prior to this, Mr. Van Hassel was CEO of Robeco, the Rotterdam-based international asset management firm that is wholly owned by ORIX Corporation Europe. He joined Robeco in 2016 as CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee and was responsible for all global business line operations for the firm. Mr. Van Hassel has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, mainly in asset and wealth management, with broad experience in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Until 2013 he was Global CEO and a Member of the Board of ING Insurance and Investment Management. Prior to joining ING in 2007, Mr. Van Hassel held executive positions in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. with J.P. Morgan.
Mr. Van Hassel earned a Masters in Applied Economics from the University of Antwerp St. Ignatius (Belgium), an MBA with a major in International Finance from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium) and an MS in Finance from Purdue University (Indiana).
