James Flynn is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Lument, a national leader in commercial real estate finance and a subsidiary of ORIX Corporation USA. He is responsible for overseeing the firm’s transformation from a provider of agency finance to the multifamily, affordable, and seniors housing industry to a comprehensive CRE platform, offering diversified capital solutions and services for both borrowers and investors. Mr. Flynn was instrumental in launching Lument, which was created in 2020 from the combination of Hunt Real Estate Capital and two ORIX USA legacy brands, RED Capital and Lancaster Pollard. Today, Lument leads the nation in FHA originations, is the top FHA Lean seniors lender over the past decade, and is a top ten affordable housing lender. Under Mr. Flynn’s leadership, Lument’s servicing portfolio has grown to over $50 billion and total annual transactions to almost $16 billion. Mr. Flynn is also on ORIX USA’s Management committee and is based in New York.
Previously, Mr. Flynn was President and Chief Investment Officer of Hunt, where he launched Hunt’s principal lending business and grew its serving portfolio by more than $3 billion and its annual originations by 80 percent. At Hunt’s predecessor company, Centerline Capital Group, he co-led the group responsible for a portfolio of more than $8 billion in affordable multifamily assets and managed the special servicing, REO, and asset disposition units, with a portfolio of more than 1,100 properties totaling more than 120,000 units. Mr. Flynn also served as portfolio manager for the firm’s commercial mortgage REIT.
Before joining Hunt and Centerline in 2007, Mr. Flynn practiced real estate law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and was an investment banker at Lehman Brothers.
Mr. Flynn holds a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from Georgetown University and a JD from Columbia University.
