ORIX USA and Lument Employees Volunteer on Home Building Project in New York City

ORIX USA and Lument employees in New York volunteered on a home building project in Queens, NY for a Habitat for Humanity Build Day in March 2023. The group helped rehabilitate an existing structure into an environmentally responsible, energy-efficient, low-carbon footprint “green home,” which will be occupied by a family through an affordable housing lottery.

Eleven volunteers were divided into two groups to work on different parts of the house – in the attic, one team removed sheet rock and installed vapor barrier (house wrap), and in the basement, volunteers installed, taped and spackled sheetrock and sealed the ceiling. This gave volunteers the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the office, while supporting sustainability initiatives and Habitat’s vision where everyone has a decent place to live. This was the firm’s first volunteer day with Habitat in 2023, and follows build days in 2022 in Columbus, Boston, New York, Dallas and Irvine, as part of its ongoing partnership with the organization.

Mike Packer, Executive Director, ORIX Capital Partners, shared his thoughts on the event: “This was new work for most of us, but we received plenty of guidance and supervision from the folks at Habitat for Humanity. It was a lot of fun to work with and get to know other ORIX USA Group team members from various divisions. This is my second time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity through the firm and I look forward to participating again next time. It is a rewarding way to give back, meet new people, and bond as a company.”

Part of ORIX USA Group’s CSR strategy aims to address affordable housing needs and homelessness issues, and the firm is thankful for the opportunity to give back to local communities. All ORIX USA Group employees are encouraged to support nonprofit causes through volunteering.
