David Martin is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Signal Peak Capital Management (SPCM), a credit focused asset management team at ORIX Advisers, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of ORIX Corporation USA. He is also a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Mr. Martin has been with ORIX USA since 2009, including five years as co-head of the Mariner Leveraged Credit team prior to that team’s ownership transition to ORIX USA and rebranding as SPCM in 2020.
Prior to his current role, he was a Senior VP at Imperial Capital, LLC where he worked in Loan Trading Desk Analytics. Prior to that, Mr. Martin was a Portfolio Manager at Highland Capital Management, L.P. While at Highland, Mr. Martin managed a portfolio consisting primarily of leveraged loans and high yield securities in designated industry verticals including telecom, cable, and media. Before joining Highland, Mr. Martin was a Vice President at Newcastle Partners, a Dallas, Texas based hedge fund that managed investments in all parts of the capital structure. Prior to Newcastle, Mr. Martin worked at Imperial Capital, LLC focusing on analysis of distressed credits and in their investment banking group. Before joining Imperial Capital, LLC, Mr. Martin worked for Enron Corp. in their associate program. Mr. Martin is a voting member of SPCM’s Investment Committee.
He holds both an MBA and MPA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas and a BBA in Finance from Texas A&M University.
