Robert Smock is Managing Director and Chief Strategy Officer at ORIX Corporation USA. Mr. Smock supports and advises on ORIX USA’s strategic growth across its business lines. He is responsible for identifying and evaluating new strategic initiatives to further expand the platform, as well as helping to source, evaluate, and manage investment opportunities for the core asset classes. He joined the firm in 2024 and is based in New York.
Before joining ORIX USA, Mr. Smock spent more than 17 years at MUFG Americas, where he most recently served as Head of Corporate Advisory and Private Equity Sponsor Coverage, driving the strategic direction of the firm’s Americas corporate and investment banking business, including originating and executing sizable M&A transactions. During his tenure at MUFG, he initiated and grew the firm’s corporate finance-related revenue and developed the private equity business from inception. Prior to MUFG, he was Director, Technology Investment Banking for Societe Generale/Cowen and Company. Earlier in his career, Mr. Smock worked in Mergers & Acquisitions at both UBS and Wasserstein Perella & Co.
Mr. Smock earned a BA from New York University and an M. Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, U.K.
